Social Report 2006/2007Assurance StatementReporting on CSR related activities gives stakeholders a "behind the scenes look" at a company's fundamental business principles and can provide assurance that the business is taking seriously its responsibility to society, its workers, the communities in which it operates, other stakeholders and the environment. Reporting on its activities in this area can also be used to show that the business is committed to performance improvements. Gaining assurance over the systems, processes and information reported can provide even greater credibility to stakeholders that the business takes its responsibilities seriously and strives for improvement. It is important for British American Tobacco to continue to seek the most rigorous forms of assurance over its reported information to gain additional and continued credibility over its Social Reports and to ensure that this reflects best practice. British American Tobacco EU social reporting process followed the AA1000 model, with broader reporting on the social, ethical and environmental performance through the inclusion of indicators from the Global Reporting Initiative's Sustainability Reporting Guidelines ("GRI"). British American Tobacco has appointed Bureau Veritas as independent assurer, to certify the social reporting process against the AA1000 Assurance Standard. Bureau Veritas is a professional services company that specialises in Quality, Health & Safety, Social and Environmental management, with a presence in over 120 countries. Bureau Veritas has extensive experience in working with companies on their Corporate and Social Responsibility activity programmes and in providing assurance using best practice methodologies. |
